Emily brings a strong background in social work, advocacy, and community service to her candidacy for Fridley City Council. After earning her degree in Criminal Justice from North Dakota State University, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer before building a career supporting children, families, and vulnerable youth. She later earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Denver and now works as a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Social Worker at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital. Her professional experience includes working with homeless youth, crime victims, and families facing mental health challenges, giving her firsthand insight into the needs of working families and young people.
Emily and her family have proudly called Fridley home since 2018. She and her husband are raising their three children in the community, and their oldest attends Stevenson Elementary. Their family is active in youth sports and activities throughout the city, including soccer, hockey, swimming, dance, and after-school programs. Emily also owned and operated a small business in Fridley, Du Nord Dog Training. Raised in a family deeply committed to public service, Emily grew up understanding the importance of strong schools, accessible community resources, and leadership that puts people first.
Emily is passionate about creating a Fridley where families feel connected, supported, and heard. Her experience working directly with children, teens, and families facing difficult circumstances has shaped her belief that strong communities are built through compassion, responsiveness, and access to opportunities. She has been deeply involved in mutual aid efforts in Fridley, helping organize support for families impacted by economic hardship, raising funds for local students and school resources, and delivering groceries and essential items to neighbors in need. Emily believes local government works best when it listens to residents, invests in families, and builds a community where everyone has the chance to succeed.
